“Thank You is medicine!”
“I was having an anxiety moment and the first thing I wanted was to listen to Thank You. It was like a ritual sound bath.” - A fan
Funk is timeless, and the debut single from ZamboniFunk, Can’t Help Myself, proves that smooth sounds and soul singing still moves the spirit.
Zamboni has been singing since he could breathe and playing music since he could clap. For some reason, it always just came out funky.
He released his first two studio recordings in high school, and followed that with a college band styled after Parliament-Funkadelic, the Funky Funky Freaks. When he moved out of the midwest to NYC, he found himself playing a couple pickup gigs with his heroes in Funkadelic, as well as touring with major reggae artists Anthony B and Nando Griffiths. Alongside Nando, he directed Kingston 8 Band, which saw a live studio release in 2021.
During his time in NYC, he took his gospel roots and found his way into a wider spirituality of rhythm and vibration, as described by the Gnostic axiom “As Above, So Below.” He became a professional astrologer, on the understanding that the same Funk that guides the illest bass grooves also describes the motion of the heavens. It’s all on the One.
Zamboni’s solo debut represents a rededication to music as premier manifestation of the Universal Principle. Funky, smooth as ice, and telling a Truth you can feel in your bones, Can’t Help Myself serves up a tasty helping of timeless soul.
As his recent podcast guest Gordon White remarked, “Humans are designed to express and understand beauty.” For ZamboniFunk, nothing achieves this more perfectly than playing on, in, and with celestial timing. If Funk is the Cosmic Slop from which the Universe emerges, then why wouldn’t I want to be knee deep in it?
